Focus and Scope

Scientific Annals of “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” of Iasi - Series Geography is an open access journal devoted to the publication of original scientific papers in the field of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. The journal encourages new approaches, methods and ideas within the subject areas and practices double-blind peer-review process. Papers can be submitted in English or French, but the first one is highly recommended. 

The journal publishes original scientific papers describing the latest developments and debates within Physical and Human Geography, as well as interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies. The journal covers theoretical, methodological, thematic and applied approaches in the field of:

-      Geomorphology

-      Climatology and Hydrology

-      Biogeography and Landscape dynamics

-      Pedogeography

-      Natural hazards and risks

-      Human-environment relations

-      Population and human settlements

-      Spatial analysis of economic activities

-      Territorial planning

-      Toponymy and historical geography

-      Social and political geography

-      GIS and Remote Sensing

 

Section Policies

Research articles

-      Research articles include original and consistent scientific results within journal’s scope and subject areas.  Generally, these are expected to be between 12 and 25 journal pages (4000-10000 words), appropriate number of figures and/or tables (if necessary!), an abstract of 200-250 words and 20 - 60 relevant references.

Brief communications

-      Brief communications/Reports (6-12 journal pages) report new approaches, significant advances of theoretical and experimental methods, discuss significant aspects of nowadays geography, including personal points of view, disseminate information and data etc. Brief communications have a maximum of five figures and/or table, an abstract not exceeding 200 words and 10 - 30 relevant references.

Book review

-      Book reviews provide critical presentation and evaluation of a recent book (published in the last two years). Book reviews should not be only a summary and should not exceed 1500 words (3 journal pages).

Anniversary and commemorating papers

-      Anniversary and commemorating papers are occasionally published in Romanian or, as appropriate, in a different international language. Size and structure can be adapted, but the manuscripts should meet the editorial requirements of journal.

Comments and replies

-      Comments and replies (1-2 journal page(s)) can be accepted in order to discuss and/or to comment significant aspects regarding previously published papers.

Peer Review Process

General information

The reviewing process is confidential. The Journal operates a conventional double-blind reviewing process.

Once the manuscript has been submitted, the editorial board checks technical aspects and language accuracy. If major problems are identified, the authors are notified and asked to perform the required corrections. In this case, authors must proceed to a new submission.

If the manuscript is accepted by the editorial board, it will receive a manuscript number and will be sent (without name and affiliation of author(s)) to two or more independent referees.

At least two independent referees must accept to review the manuscript and to complete the evaluation reports. Referees reports and comments will be sent to the authors by the editorial board, to make the recommended changes.

In order to be published, a manuscript needs at two positive reviewing reports.

 

Evaluation criteria

In the reviewing process, the referees will take into account the next aspects and evaluation criteria:

-      degree of novelty, existence of new data/ideas/methods;

-      adequacy of title, abstract and key word;

-      clarity and consistency of presentation;

-      selection of related references;

-      adequate presentation of own contribution;

-      spelling and language accuracy;

-      appropriate interpretation of results.

 

 

Publication Frequency

Editorial board receives continuously papers to be reviewed and published in the next issues. Once a paper is accepted, the editor will notify the corresponding author, but the paper will be published online at the date of the forthcoming issue (June or December). The printed version need more time to be published, and authors are requested to submit their papers before April 15th, respectively October 15th for each of the two issues of the forthcoming volume.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
